A sensational sleeper of the vintage, this 2005 Le Pin Beausoleil is a surprisingly big, full-bodied, deep, concentrated wine offering excellent notes of crème de cassis, smoke, licorice, forest floor, and spice. A remarkable effort for its humble appellation and price, it should drink well for 5-7 years.
A 1,300-case blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and a touch of Malbec was fashioned from remarkably low yields of 22 hectoliters per hectare by the brilliant Stephane Derenoncourt.
Displays toasty oak, with hints of ripe berry on the nose. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a silky finish. A bit tight, but there's some serious fruit underneath. Best after 2009. (James Suckling)
Robe pourpre sombre.
(Issue 126: May/June 2006) Medium ruby. High-toned, perfumed aromas of blackberry, violet and spicy oak. Sweet, aromatic and quite juicy in the mouth , with lovely purity of blackberry fruit. Finishes with firm tannic spine and good length. An outperformer in 2005.
From one of my favorite lower pedigree estates, this blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Malbec is produced by consulting winemaker, Stephane Derenoncourt. Beautifully etched with a deep purple color as well as a sweet perfume of mocha, vanilla, and black cherry jam, fresh acidity, super texture, and a heady finish (13.5% natural alcohol), it should be consumed during its first 5-7 years of life.
Inky, slightly dank and schisty nose. Meaty on the palate, with a full-flavoured richness and density. Definitely flirting with over-extraction, but impressive for the Appellation again.
This charming value priced wine has paid dividends with its smoky, licorice and black cherry personality. Round textures and ripe fresh fruit make this a fun wine to pop, pour and taste. (Tasted Jan 19, 2013)

Chateau le Pin Beausoleil is grown on the best plots of the estate, one of 5 hectares near the chateau, in Saint-Vincent de Pertignas, on a beautifully situated, well drained clay-limestone plateau and on a smaller plot of 2 hectares in Merignas, in the middle of a small forest, the soil here also has a wonderful clay-limestone structure.
